Santa Fe Seniors on Bikes (SOBs) are a group of road cycling enthusiasts who meet at least once a week, typically on Thursday mornings, to ride the Santa Fe area. Our trips are in the order of 30 miles, but opportunities always exist to extend, or to turn around at any point along the way.

We publish a ride list each year, based on a membership meeting in February.

We have around 80 members, with a 50% mix of males and females.

Most rides see around 15 - 20 members and we have a reputation for enjoying socializing over coffee after, and occasionally during, our rides.

Safety Policy:

The policy of the Santa Fe Seniors On Bikes cycling club is to obey all traffic laws. This includes each individual rider obeying all traffic signals. Riding single file on the right side of the road and using hand signals are encouraged. Helmets are required.  It is our intent for bike riders to behave as vehicles. These practices will help keep our rides safe and will set an example for other cyclists.

If this sounds like a group you would like to take part in, please check out our ride calendar  and fill in the Contact Form  or e-mail us at:

Information for Riders

The Seniors On Bikes (SOB’s) club is for bicycle riders of 50 years and older. It is our intent to provide social rides for riders of all abilities. We will generally have three rides each week of varying difficulty.

Each ride will be led by a ride leader and all riders are expected to ride safely and in accordance with applicable traffic laws. We also ask all riders to be courteous of other riders and other vehicles.

Riders are expected to have bicycles in good repair and they should carry and know how to use the tools and a spare tube as required for repairing flats. As noted below, some help can be provided for beginning riders.

Essential items to have on an SOB ride

   1. Helmet
   2. Emergency contact name and phone number including medical insurance numbers on a business card or 3 x 5
   3. 2 water bottles
   4. Spare tube
   5. Couple tire irons
   6. Either a hand pump or a couple C02 cartridges with cartridge head
   7. small multi-tool to fit your loose seat post, H20 cages, etcetera
   8. small pen knife or tweezers to remove stickers

The riding groups will generally stay together and we ask that if a rider decides to leave the ride, he let the ride leader know. Ride leaders will carry cell phones, but they may not always have reception on the rides.

A description of the Ride Groups follows:

A Group:Usually rides 35 to 50 miles at an average speed of about 14 miles per hour. The ride leader will stop for regrouping, but will usually wait only 5 to 10 minutes. Riders may ride faster or slower and regroup at the coffee stop. For this group riders are expected to be able to change flats and do simple bike repairs.

B Group:Usually rides 25 to 35 miles at an average speed of about 12 miles per hour. This group is “non-drop” group. Riders will not be left behind. Usually, a designated rider (HERO) will ride at the back the group to assure that no one is left and to help with flats or simple mechanical problems.

C Group:Rides less than 20 miles at a speed that depends on the riders. The group will usually follow the same route as the B Group. But will turn around when the riders have gone as far as they want. This will also be a “non-drop” group.
